An contracted laborer is someone, usually living on Mannon, usually from Tanatha, who signs a contract to work for an agreed upon amount of time, performing mutually acceptable duties, in order to "pay" for transport to another planet for the purpose of eventually settling there. Interplanetary travel costs were and continue to be prohibitive, so for many people this is the only way to be able to afford travel to the Local Cluster.
